  • Description: A beggar becomes the link –and the narrator – of four autonomous everyday stories. The “honest “man that they are looking for is any candidate bridegroom for any poor and innocent young woman with the relevant dowry according to the customs of that period. The film also bring back that type of beggar and the plot of the excellent film of Giorgos Tzavellas The Counterfeit Sovereign. 1) Two couples meet at a remote café. The first couple consists of Maria and Sotiris; the second couple consists of Eleni, who is Sotiris’ sister and Pantelis, who is Maria’s brother. The two young women, who are also colleagues, have arranged the date so that they can persuade their boyfriends to marry them. 2) A young woman and the haberdasher of a neighborhood try really hard to find Dimitris Giannopoulos, who works in a large company, to tell him that his wife is in labor. Dimitris is in a quandary about what to do, since he has just been informed by another phone call that his mother is dying. Where should he go first? 3) The joint where the beggar has gone to in order to forget his pain is the place where two tough guys are waiting for The Boss to arrive. The latter is annoyed by the presence of the beggar and asks him to leave, but he refuses and is duly beaten. 4) A young man who is in love with the beggar’s daughter decides to emigrate. Before he leaves, he marries his beloved and accepts the fact that her father is a beggar who sometimes pretends to be blind and other times deaf.
